One Moment in Time

We are at a tipping point in time, every moment is the prelude to another and yet holds the faint aroma of the last. No matter who we are, where we go or what we do, all takes place in the present moment. No wonder the sages throughout time have spoken so vehemently about staying present and focused on NOW!

Sweeping the western world like a rash is the practice of Mindfulness. A simple meditative technique of being present in all its technicolour glory. Few of us have had the opportunity to understand the power we can derive from the gathering of our energy and focus into a single moment. Martial arts certainly teach the practice of sensing the energetic pulls of emotion in particular. Athletes or artists are perhaps our best examples of being present as they give completely to the task at hand. If you have ever 'lost' yourself in admiring a place of beauty or indeed in love then you also appreciate what is meant here.

Since we have both imagination, which takes us into the future, and memory which draws on the past it is often extremely difficult for any of us to remain in the present. The memory and imagination are both amazing tools but are double edged swords offering both destruction and life renewed, past and future in a quantum package, all wrapped up in a perspective which reflects our present concerns. We are so easily swayed by the next impulse and distraction.

The fulcrum, that central point upon which all is balanced, is where we find the present moment and since there is nothing but the present moment, we cannot find ourselves anywhere else. Holding onto this concept however is not so easy.
